Double Flex chain

Articulates in two planes, around the sprocket and around the corner, with tensile strength for the heaviest timber and bulk conveying.

MAXTOP Double Flex chain

One chain, two planes

Most conveyor chain bends one way. Double Flex is designed to operate in two planes: it wraps sprockets like any conveyor chain, and flexes sideways to follow turns, so a single circuit can rise, fall and change direction without transfer points. Fewer transfers means fewer drives, fewer jams and less product damage.

The construction is heavy conveying, not light packaging: induction-hardened inner link plates and cup-shaped outer plates on the DF3500 and DF3910, a large sliding area to cut wear on chain and surface alike, and minimum tensile strengths around 18,000 kgf. Its proven home is the sawmill: log decks, transfers and waste lines, with plenty of uses beyond timber.

Engineering data

The DF series

The flex radius is the tightest sideways curve the chain will follow. Type A (DF3498) uses straight outer plates for greater flexibility.

ChainTypePitch (mm)Min flex radius (mm)Tensile strength (kgf, min.)Weight (kg/m)
DF3498A44.45 / 63.545718,4005.9

DF3910B76.2 / 76.255918,0004.8

DF3500 and DF3910 have induction-hardened inner link plates and cup-shaped outer link plates; DF3498 has straight outer link plates for greater flexibility. Supplied to order — contact us for current lead time.

Where it earns its keep

Circuits that turn corners

  • Sawmill log decks, transfers and sorting lines
  • Waste and residual conveyors that snake around plant
  • Bulk lines where transfer points keep jamming
  • Layouts too tight for straight-run conveyors

Design note
The radius is the spec

Like side-bow chain, Double Flex selection starts from the tightest curve on the circuit; the chain's minimum flex radius must be smaller than it. Send the layout and the load and we will specify the series.

Common questions

Straight answers

What is Double Flex chain?

A conveyor chain designed to operate in two planes. It articulates around sprockets and flexes sideways, so a single chain can follow paths that turn as well as rise. It has many uses across industries, with sawmill and timber conveying the proven home.

What is the difference between DF3498, DF3500 and DF3910?

Pitch and construction. DF3498 has straight outer link plates for greater flexibility (minimum flex radius 457 mm). DF3500 and DF3910 have induction-hardened inner link plates and cup-shaped outer plates. DF3500 articulates on two planes with a large sliding area to reduce wear on the chain and the sliding surface, with maximum flexibility both horizontal and vertical.

How strong is Double Flex chain?

Minimum tensile strengths are 18,400 kgf (DF3498), 17,400 kgf (DF3500) and 18,000 kgf (DF3910), which is heavy conveying territory. Flex radii run from 457 to 559 mm depending on the series.
