No rivets, by design
An overhead conveyor can run kilometres of chain around a plant, and when a link fails at height, nobody wants to bring the circuit down to a bench. Rivetless chain solves it structurally: drop-forged links and pins that assemble and dismantle by hand, so any link can be swapped in place.
The X-style designs are built for overhead conveyor and other special applications, proportioned to flex transversely on a shorter radius, with a mid-pitch panel in the side bars that strengthens the sidebar and stops material falling through the link.

X-series chain identifies quickly from the pitch: 348, 458 and 678 are distinct sizes. A photo of a link and trolley is usually enough to quote the chain and running gear together.

What is drop-forged rivetless chain?
A chain assembled from drop-forged links and pins with no rivets. Links are assembled and dismantled by hand, which is why it is the standard chain for overhead conveyors: any link can be dropped out and replaced in place, without splitting tools.
What does the X in X348 or X678 mean?
