Non-marking, plastic-roller & quiet chain

For lines where the chain runs against finished product: plastic rollers, non-marking construction and poly-steel chain that protect the goods and cut the noise.

When the chain touches the product

On most drives, nobody cares what the chain looks like. On a packaging or finishing line the chain runs against the goods, and a steel roller will mark a printed carton, scuff a painted panel or scratch a moulding, turning finished product into scrap.

Three constructions solve it. Plastic-roller chain keeps the steel chain but replaces the rollers with engineered plastic (POM), so nothing steel touches the product, and the line runs markedly quieter. Non-marking chain extends the same idea to the components that contact the goods. Poly-steel chain goes further: stainless steel outer links with engineered-plastic inner links, giving a light, corrosion-resistant, product-friendly chain for wet and hygienic lines. Food-grade (FDA-approved) blue plastic is available on request, so any fragment is visible on an inspection line.

Choosing between them

Which construction for which problem

  • Product is being marked or scratched → plastic-roller or non-marking chain
  • Line is too noisy → plastic rollers, or low-noise chain construction
  • Wet, washdown or hygienic line → poly-steel (stainless steel + plastic), or self-lube chain
  • Product inspection is critical → FDA-approved blue plastic, so fragments show up
  • Weight matters → poly-steel is significantly lighter than all-steel chain
Trade-off, stated plainly
Plastic costs strength

Plastic-component chains carry less load than all-steel equivalents. On light conveying duties that is irrelevant; on a loaded drive it is decisive. Tell us the load and we will be straight with you about which construction works.

Common questions

Straight answers

What chain won't mark my product?

Plastic-roller chain (steel chain with engineered POM rollers) or non-marking chain. Both put plastic, not steel, in contact with the goods, so printed cartons, painted panels and mouldings arrive unmarked. They also run considerably quieter.

What is poly-steel chain?

A chain with stainless steel outer links and engineered-plastic inner links. It is light, corrosion resistant and gentle on product, which suits wet, hygienic and washdown lines. FDA-approved blue plastic is available on request so any fragment is visible to inspection systems.

Can you supply a quieter chain for our packing hall?

Yes. Plastic-roller chain runs quieter than all-steel, and there is a dedicated low-noise chain construction rated to around 200 m/min. Tell us the speed and load and we will specify accordingly.

Are plastic-component chains as strong as steel?

No. They carry less load than all-steel equivalents, which is fine on light conveying and wrong on a loaded drive. Send us the load and speed and we will tell you which construction will cope.

Chain marking your product?

Tell us the product, the line speed and the load, and we will specify a construction that protects it.
