Forged link conveyor chain
One-piece drop-forged links, pin-connected, from 101.6 to 260 mm pitch — the chain for scraper and en-masse conveyors in ash, cement, grain, wood chip and biomass, with scrapers and sprockets to match.

No bushes, no rollers, nothing to clog
Each link is forged in one piece and connected to the next by a single pin. That leaves nothing for dust and fines to pack into, which is why en-masse and drag conveyors in the dirtiest duties run on it. Links come in five standard styles (A to E), and can be supplied in alloy steel with a press-fit inserted bush where the duty calls for extra wear life.
- Three standard materials: carbon steel, manganese-chrome steel, nickel-chrome steel — others on request
- Scraper attachments: U-type, square-bar, flat-bar, C-type and O-type, with or without drilled fixing holes
- Twin-chain arrangements with attachments spanning both strands, and strengthening struts inside attachment frames
Measure pin centre to pin centre and photograph one link side on. With the pitch and the style we can normally identify a forged chain and quote a replacement, attachments included.

From the Merley Chains catalogue. Loads are average breaking loads based on through-hardened steel links, quoted in kilograms — not minimums, and never working loads. Full link dimensions are in the catalogue or on request.

Drive and tail sprockets
Matched drive sprockets (6 to 12 teeth) and plain tail rims are catalogued per chain reference, with pilot bores machined to our specification for finishing to your shaft. Order chain and sprockets together and both arrive to one specification — see sprockets made to suit your chain.
Rough-duty conveyors also run on cast & combination chain and on the BS, ISO & FV roller conveyor ranges. For overhead conveyors, the drop-forged construction you want is X-series rivetless chain. A photo of a link settles which family you have.
Send the pitch and a photo of one link.
We will identify the chain, match the scrapers and quote it with sprockets to suit.
Straight answers
What is forged link conveyor chain?
A chain built from one-piece drop-forged steel links joined by pins, with no bushes or rollers to clog. The simple, heavy construction suits scraper and en-masse conveyors moving abrasive or dusty material: ash, cement, grain, wood chip and biomass.
How is forged link chain different from cast chain?
Forged links are shaped from solid steel; cast links are poured. Both serve rough, slow, dirty duties. Which is right depends on the conveyor and what runs through it, and often on what the machine was designed around. Send the link stamping or a sample and we will identify and quote it.
Are the breaking loads in the table minimums?
No. For this range the catalogue publishes average breaking loads, based on through-hardened steel links, quoted in kilograms. Working load must be far lower again. Tell us the duty and we will size the chain, free.
Can you supply scrapers on forged link chain?
Yes. U-type, square-bar, flat-bar, C-type and O-type scraper attachments, plus arrangements with attachments spanning two chains and strengthening struts inside attachment frames. Tell us the box width and the material conveyed.
